Feds may have nabbed the RedLine admin
Authorities extradited Armenian national Hambardzum Minasyan to the United States, where he appeared in a Texas court facing conspiracy charges for his alleged role in developing and administering RedLine, one of the world's most prevalent infostealers that pilfers billions of user credentials annually. Prosecutors say Minasyan registered virtual private servers to host RedLine, established file-sharing repositories to distribute the malware to affiliates, and set up cryptocurrency accounts to receive payments, while the conspiracy also involved customer support for affiliates and laundering proceeds through crypto exchanges. The case is part of Operation Magnus, a 2024 international effort by the U.S., Belgium, the Netherlands and Eurojust that disrupted RedLine and the related Meta infostealer and previously led to charges against a Russian developer. Google moving faster than feds on post-quantum encryption
Google is accelerating its migration to quantum-resistant encryption to 2029—six years ahead of federal guidelines—citing faster than expected advances in quantum computing hardware, error correction and factoring that have made the threat more urgent. The company is replacing legacy encryption with new NIST-vetted algorithms designed to withstand future quantum attacks, and hopes its aggressive timeline will push other private businesses to follow suit, since there is no mandate for the private sector to migrate at all. The shift reflects growing anxiety among U.S. tech leaders about Chinese quantum breakthroughs and aligns with White House discussions about potentially moving federal agency deadlines from 2035 to 2030 or sooner. The quest to protect the mid-term elections

Hale said a decade of progress in election security—including vulnerability management programs and stronger state-federal coordination through CISA—is at risk as trust and information-sharing relationships have "frayed," leaving election officials scrambling to identify resources and navigate intelligence on threats like Iranian cyber activity ahead of the 2026 midterms.
